iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: Specifications Comparison Before You Buy
Apple has entered the foldable-phone market with the iPhone Duo, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 is already on sale. They both open into a 7.6-inch device, but they take different approaches to size, cameras, software, and everyday use.
This is a specifications comparison, not a hands-on camera, battery, or durability test. The iPhone Duo will not be available until October 23, 2026, so a final real-world verdict should wait until both phones can be tested under the same conditions.

Design: similar idea, different priorities
The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and 7.6-inch inner display. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is very close, with a 5.5-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch inner display.
Apple uses grade 5 titanium and offers Star White and Night Sky. Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 grams and offers Graphite, Cream, Lavender, and an online-exclusive Pistachio option in some markets.
Apple gives the Duo an IP68 rating, while the Fold8 carries IP48. Ratings do not tell the full story of long-term foldable durability, but the Duo’s published rating indicates stronger dust protection on paper. Samsung has more generations of commercial foldable experience, while the Duo is Apple’s first model. Buyers must decide whether they value the newer Apple design or Samsung’s longer foldable history.
Display and everyday usefulness
Both phones provide a compact outer display and a tablet-like 7.6-inch screen inside. Apple says the Duo’s two displays use the same aspect ratio, helping content scale more consistently. The inner screen also uses a nano-texture finish intended to reduce glare and crease visibility.
Samsung’s Fold8 uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz and lists up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Its squarer inner screen is suited to reading, multitasking and viewing two apps together.
For everyday use, the more important difference may be software. iOS 27 introduces Split View, saved app pairs and two windows of the same supported app. Samsung’s One UI has years of foldable development behind its split-screen, drag-and-drop, and multitasking tools.
Apple’s implementation may feel more familiar to existing iPhone users, while Samsung currently has the advantage of a more established foldable app ecosystem. That could change as developers update their apps for the Duo.

Performance and AI
The Duo uses Apple’s A20 Pro with a custom vapour chamber and Dual 16-core Neural Engine. The Fold8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform for Galaxy with 12GB or 16GB of RAM depending on storage.
Apple Intelligence and Siri AI focus on personal context, onscreen awareness, and working beside another app. Samsung combines Galaxy AI with supported Gemini experiences, including tools designed around its larger display.
Processor claims cannot be compared fairly from manufacturer percentages alone. Independent tests will be needed to compare heat, sustained gaming, AI processing, and battery efficiency. Software preference may matter more than theoretical speed: choose the platform that works with your other devices and daily apps.
Camera comparison
The iPhone Duo has a 48MP Main camera and 48MP Ultra Wide. The Main sensor provides an optical-quality 2× option, but the phone does not have a dedicated telephoto lens.
The regular Galaxy Z Fold8 has a 50MP wide camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera. Samsung lists a 2× optical-quality crop and up to 10× digital zoom, but it also lacks a dedicated telephoto camera.
Both use their outer displays to make foldable photography more useful. The Duo offers Duo Preview and rear-camera selfies, while Samsung provides cover-screen previews and foldable shooting tools. Apple lists 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120fps on the Main camera; Samsung lists up to 8K recording at 30fps.
Resolution and frame-rate numbers do not automatically determine image quality. Colour, low-light processing, stabilisation and microphone quality need direct comparison after the Duo launches.
Battery and charging
Samsung publishes a 4,800mAh typical battery for the Fold8. It claims up to 63% charging in around 30 minutes with a compatible 45W adapter and cable, plus wireless charging up to 20W.
Apple does not present the Duo’s battery as one combined milliamp-hour figure in its announcement. Instead, it uses two internal batteries and claims up to 31 hours of video on the inner display, 44 hours on the outer display, and 24 hours when both are used equally. Apple claims 50% wired charging in around 20 minutes and 50% wireless charging in around 30 minutes with compatible equipment.
These results come from different manufacturer tests. A fair winner cannot be chosen until both phones are tested at the same brightness, network conditions, and workload.
Storage, SIMs and connectivity
The Duo offers up to 2TB, while the regular Fold8 tops out at 1TB. That gives Apple the advantage for buyers who store large video projects directly on the phone, although the 2TB model will cost more.
The iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide. Samsung’s SIM configuration can vary by market. Nigerian buyers should confirm the exact regional model, supported network bands, and eSIM or physical-SIM arrangement before importing either device.
Both support current wireless technologies, but regional differences can affect 5G, satellite services, and warranty coverage.

Price and availability
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States and becomes available in its first markets on October 23. The Galaxy Z Fold8 launched from $1,899.99 in the US and is already available.
The $99.01 starting-price difference is small relative to the total cost, so storage, warranty, and local availability may matter more. Neither US price should be presented as a Nigerian retail price.
Which foldable should you choose?
Choose the iPhone Duo if you already use Apple devices, want iOS on a folding screen, need storage up to 2TB, or prefer its published camera and video features. However, it is a first-generation product, eSIM-only, and not yet available for independent long-term testing.
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want a foldable you can buy now, prefer Android, value Samsung’s mature multitasking system, or want a company with several generations of foldable experience. Its regular model still lacks a dedicated telephoto camera, so photography buyers should check that limitation carefully.
At this stage, there is no responsible overall winner. On specifications, the Duo looks strong in storage, video, and Apple ecosystem integration. The Fold8 has the advantage of availability and an established foldable platform. The better purchase depends on software preference, local support, and what you will actually do with the inner screen.
